Only God Knows Best

This is me: sometimes hidden
and sometimes revealed.
Sometimes a devoted Muslim
and sometimes
a Christian or a Jew.
For me to fit inside everyone's heart,
I put on a new face everyday.
Rumi

ماییم که گه نهان وگه پیداییم
گه مومن و گه یهود و گه ترساییم
تا این دل ما قالب هر دل گردد
هر روز به صورتی برون می آییم

مولانای بلخ و روم

"I" and "You" are the veil
between heaven and earth.
Lift this veil and you'll see
no longer the bonds of
Sects and Creeds.
When "I" and "You"
no longer exist:
What is a Mosque?
What is a Synagogue?
What's the Temple of Hindus?
What's the Church of Christ?
Rumi

In the path of seeking the wise and fools are the same.
In the faith of love
the known and unknown are the same.
For the lover intoxicated
by the wine of mystical union with Beloved,
in his or her faith,
Muslims' Kaaba and Hindus' Temple of Idols
are the same.

در راه طلب عاقل و دیوانه یکیست در شیوه عشق خویش و بیگانه یکیست
آنرا که شراب وصل جانان دادند
درمذهب او کعبه و بتخانه یکیست
مولانا جلال الدين بلخي رومي

You can't call yourself a Sufi by simply wearing a Sufi cloak made of wool.
You can't become a Sufi Master
by simply being a talkative sweet-talker.
A Sufi must first possess a pure heart.
So you want to practice Sufism
with all that hatred in your heart?
Give this Sufi a break, will ya?!

صوفي نشوي بفوطه و پشمينه نه پيرشوي زصحبت ديرينه
صوفي بايد كه صاف دارد سينه
انصاف بده صوفي و آنهمه كينه
مولانا جلال الدين بلخي رومي

So what is Sufism?

I've heard that ecstasy

of 'Wearers of Wool'

comes from finding

the taste of Divine Love.

That’s Sufism, nothing more.

Sufism is a mystical path,

it is this clear spiritual road.

That’s Sufism, nothing more.

What is Sufism ?

Good character and

full awareness of love,

the cure for all your

hatred and vengeance.

That’s Sufism, nothing more.

What is Sufism ?

The heart attaining tranquility

which is the root and purpose

of practicing any religion.

That’s Sufism, nothing more.

What is Sufism ?

Contemplation that travels

to the highest Divine Throne,

a far-seeing mystical gaze.

That’s Sufism, nothing more.

Sufism is keeping your distance

from imagination and supposition.

Sufism is surrendering your soul

to the care of inviolability

of Divine Love.

Sufism is searching deep within

for inner meanings of your own faith,

and a lifelong journey

towards the final mystical union

with the One and Only.

That’s Sufism, nothing more.

Sufism is a smooth and

illuminated path,

it is this highly spiritual
and mystical way

to reach the exalted Throne

of our Friend and Beloved,

the Almighty God.

Rumi

Do you know what Sema,

the Sufi Dance of Whirling Dervishes is?
Sema is letting go completely of your existence
and tasting eternity in non-existence.
Sema is hearing the affirmation sound of
separating from self, and reaching God.
Sema is seeing and knowing
the State of Lord, our Friend,

and hearing, through the Divine Veils,the Secrets of God.
Sema is struggling with your carnal soul,
your ego,
and throwing it to the ground like a half-slain beast.Sema is opening the heart like Shams of Tabriz
and clearly seeing the Divine Light within.
Rumi

In this earth
In this soil
In this pure field
Let us not plant any seeds
Other than seeds of compassion and love.

We search this whole world
for the great untying
of what was wed to us at birth,
but it gets untied at dying.
We sleep beside an
overflowing river, thirsty.
We wander from room to room
hunting for the diamond necklace
that is already around our neck.
There is a basket of fresh bread on our head
but we go door to door asking for crusts.
There is a fountain flowing inside of us
but we walk around with an empty bucket.
Cursing and unhappy
at our entire life,
we finish up in a niche of ruins
inches away from the treasures.
Cut your chains, my friends,
and release all your pain.
Silverware and golden robes,
you must refrain.
If you try to fit the ocean
in a jug,
how small will be your drinking mug?
Never filled you ambitious boys
and greedy girls,
only if satisfied,
oyster makes pearls.
Rumi

Each moment contains
a hundred messages
from God.
To every cry of "Oh Lord",
God answers a hundred times:
"I Am Right Here."
Rumi

Remember God so much
that you are forgotten.
Let the caller and
the called disappear,
be lost in the call.
Rumi

I asked God, my Beloved:
My heart is so small,
it’s almost invisible.
How can You place such
big sorrows in it?
“Look,” God answered,
"your eyes are even smaller,
yet they behold the world."
