Synopsis:
KASHF explores one man’s journey towards Sufism, the mystical side of Islam. In the midst of worldwide headlines of the Taliban, KASHF: THE LIFTING OF THE VEIL focuses on the human face of Pakistan and its cultural heritage of Sufism and Spirituality. Audiences after seeing KASHF ask if Sufism and its history in Pakistan can stem the tide of extremism and the Taliban.
KASHF is a story of universal relevance exploring humanity’s basic questions of who we are and why we are here as the main character, Armaghan, embarks on his vision quest.Armaghan is born out of an oath his mother makes to a Sufi Pir that her child will "walk the Sufi path when he grows up". Armaghan returns to Pakistan unaware of the secret about to change his life. His cousin Ali, is on his own path of self-discovery to become a Lollywood star. Will they both find what they are looking for...
Ali MacGraw who saw the film at the Santa Fe Film Festival called it “a huge and impressive accomplishment. I was fascinated to see the many aspects of Pakistan which are not normally accessible to us on our television reportage…a riveting film." In the words of one reviewer Patricia L. Sharpe from WhirledView, “the film is a captivating homage to a Pakistan of tolerance, grace, aspiration and good humor, a Sufi-influenced Pakistan that is tragically under threat today. So well publicized is… Talibanization that most outsiders see Pakistan only in those terms... If Kashf comes your way, see it and be enchanted.”
KASHF: THE LIFTING OF THE VEIL a feature film from Pakistan has been picked up by well known distributor SPIRITUAL CINEMA CIRCLE as their featured film for their international market. The film will go out to their international membership in 70 countries in June 2009.
